Creating a Flex AIR Annotator app: Part 10

In this part of the series we will change the appearance of arrows that we've implemented in the previous part, as well as make some other minor changes.

First of all, let's decrease the maximum value of line thickness - change it to 10 from 15, because 15 is simply too thick and, since this is an annotator program, shapes of that thickness will not be used.

Go to the third navigator content object of toolbarStack and change the Slider's maximum value to 10:

Now let's change the appearance of the arrows we made in the previous tutorial. Go to drawMove() function and find the "arrow" conditional.

The first change we're going to make is alter the armlength and offset values. The trick here is that the arrow head length and width has to be relative to the line thickness and look good with all sizes. The relations I found seem good to me, you can play around with the numbers if you wish:

Now, go inside the conditional inside the "arrow" conditional where the arrow is drawn in tempSprite. The first change we'll make here is set a different lineStyle for the graphics object. Make sure to set CapsStyle mode to NONE and JointStyle to MITER. This will ensure that the arrow has pointy edges and no roundness.

The part where we draw the main line remains unchanged:

Now, we will draw a triangle on the edge of the line. We will also fill it, so use beginFill method to fill whatever we're going to draw:

One more change we'll make here is add 2 more lines to the condition where we check if the arrow fits in the drawing area. Because we've set our line style to miter, the edges go farther than the cursor. With settings like ours, the maximum value it can go is 9 pixels, so let's check if the line end is 9 pixels from the edges before drawing the arrow:
