Creating a Flex AIR Annotator app: Part 28

In this part we will merge our Move and Annotation tools into one.

Right now it is a little confusing to work with annotations - the creation and editing of the content is done using the annotation tool, but to move the annotations, you use a separate move tool.

By uniting these two tools, the movement would be done the same way, however the editing of annotations would be done through double clicks.

First, let's get rid of the Move tool. We won't remove it, but we'll replace it with an Images tool, which we will make in later tutorials.

Here's an icon I made for the button:



Save it as images.png in lib folder of the project and update the second IconButton with this picture:

Now go to addAnnotation() function and change the MouseEvent.CLICK event to MouseEvent.DOUBLE_CLICK, with the same handler annClick. Add one more listener for MOUSE_MOVE event, set handler to annMove.

Update annOver() function. Get rid of the cursor code inside it and just leave this:

Update annDown() by removing piece of code that sets drawHitArea to true, make sure the conditional checks if selectedIndex equals 3 and not 1:

Now, the new annMove() function. It is needed to get that moment when the user moves the mouse a little after holding his mouse down on the annotation. Only after that shall we set the cursor to moveCursor and enabled drawHitArea. Not only does this not display the moveCursor for the split second if the user is just double clicking and not dragging, but it also allows double clicking to happen, since if drawHitArea's mouseEnabled was set to true right after the first click, the DOUBLE_CLICK event wouldn't be dispatched.
