Creating a Flex AIR Annotator app: Part 32

In this tutorial we'll make sure that the size of imported pictures does not exceed the frame size, as well as delete all images when a new page is opened.

The first step to make the images maintain a size not larger than the drawing area itself is to limit the coordinates and sizes of images using their maximum properties.

Let's create a function for that:

Now let's set "change" event handlers of all 4 numeric steppers in our window to this function. Also, add a new label object after the width and height numeric steppers, give it an id of imgOriginal.

Now, the user isn't able to create an image bigger than the drawing area. However, what if he imports an image larger than that? It automatically gets resized, but all the proportions are lost. To maintain the proportions, we'll edit the updatePreviewImage() by adding several new things to it.

First of all, we'll create a variable called ratio. Then we set iWidth and iHeight values to contentWidth and contentHeight of iPreviewHidden, as we did before. After this, we'll have 2 conditionals checking if width or height of the image is larger than the area and resizing the whole picture and maintaining proportions using the ratio variable.

We also set the text of imgOriginal to display the original size of the picture.
